Founded in 1906 by successful businessman Carl Scheidig, the factory in Gräfenthal quickly rose to prominence by filling unique niches in the competitive German porcelain market. A pivotal moment in the company’s history occurred in 1972, when the socialist government of the GDR (East Germany) nationalized the factory to gain total state control over exports.
