A charming small amphora-shaped vase decorated in the Delft style. Adorned with a classic blue floral motif, it combines traditional aesthetics with a refined silhouette. Although produced in Germany in the second half of the 20th century, this decorative piece was made by RAAM Delfter Fayence, a company known for its dedication to Delftware craftsmanship. The vase is signed on the bottom, attesting to its authenticity and artistry. A delicate decorative object perfect for collectors of Delftware or vintage European ceramics.
Delft ceramics, also known as Delftware, is a type of hand-painted tin-glazed earthenware that has been produced since the 17th century in the Dutch city of Delft. Inspired by Chinese porcelain, it is characterized by a white tin glaze with decorations, most often in shades of blue (known as Delft Blue), depicting Dutch scenes, floral motifs, and biblical imagery. It was made in the form of plates, vases, tiles, and jugs. The most famous still-operating manufacturer is Royal Delft (De Porceleyne Fles). Delftware differs from true porcelain in its material (earthenware), hand-painted decoration, and often the presence of factory marks or date codes on the underside.
RAAM was a Dutch ceramics company founded after World War II in Arnhem as the successor to the renowned RAM factory (1921–1945). It continued the tradition of hand-painted Delft-style pottery, using classic Dutch motifs like landscapes, windmills, and sheep. The name “RAAM” was an anagram of “RAM,” and the factory preserved the original quality, design, and techniques.
RAAM’s marks often included a crown, windmill, or lamb—symbols linked to the earlier RAM brand. In the 1960s and 1970s, part of the production moved to Göppingen, Germany, to serve the Western European market. The company ceased operations in the 1980s. Today, RAAM pieces are valued for their craftsmanship and strong ties to Dutch ceramic heritage.
