He exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy in London from the 1870s until the 1890s, winning acclaim for his realistic and elegant compositions. Morning Going to Cover is one of his classic motifs, showing participants gathering before the start of a hunt.

E. G. Hester was a 19th-century English engraver known for his work with artists who painted genre and hunting scenes. He specialised in colour lithography and reproduction steel engravings, faithfully capturing the nuances of the original paintings. His works, often based on the works of painters such as Edgar A. S. Douglas, are characterized by high technical quality and subtlety in the reproduction of light and shade and detail.
