Johann Elias Ridinger (1698–1767) was one of the most prominent German engravers and illustrators of the 18th century, best known for his masterful depictions of horses, wildlife, and hunting scenes. Born in Ulm, he received his artistic training in Augsburg, where he spent most of his career. Ridinger combined a passion for drawing with a deep knowledge of animal anatomy, which gave his works remarkable realism and made them highly valued among aristocrats and hunting enthusiasts throughout Europe. His prints remained popular long after his death and were frequently republished by German printers throughout the 19th century. Today, his works are considered classics of European graphic art and are held in the collections of major museums and private collectors worldwide.
We also offer another lithograph by the same author, Mounting a Horse for the First Time, which forms a beautiful matching pair.
