Ceramics from Makkum refer to a centuries-old Dutch tradition of tin-glazed pottery that originated in the northern province of Friesland. Known for their colorful hand-painted floral and folkloric motifs, Makkum ceramics are celebrated for combining rustic charm with fine craftsmanship. Characterized by their white glaze base and bold, vivid palette, these pieces often reflect influences from both local Dutch heritage and Mediterranean maiolica styles. Today, Makkum pottery remains an icon of Dutch decorative arts and is highly valued by collectors worldwide.
